Winner of the 107th and 108th Running of the Indianapolis 500, Josef Newgarden is a two-time NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion and the winningest current American driver in the series. His dominating performance in 2016 at Iowa Speedway set an INDYCAR SERIES record for most laps led by a race winner. Newgarden’s talents extend outside of the driver’s seat – he also appeared on a 2016 episode of “American Ninja Warrior” and has participated in the NFL Combine and the Indiana Pacers Slam Dunk Contest. Newgarden uses his ping-pong ability to host an annual celebrity tournament in his hometown for the Music City Grand Prix in Nashville.

TEAM INFO

ABOUT Team Penske

Team Penske has been racing in the United States since 1966, scoring victories in every series in which it has competed. Team Penske is the most successful INDYCAR SERIES racing team in history with 236 race wins, 17 INDYCAR SERIES national championships and 298 pole positions. Roger Penske was one of America’s most successful young road racers before he retired from driving in 1965 to focus on his business interests. His team fielded Corvettes in the 1966 endurance sports car races at Daytona and Sebring before joining forces with driver Mark Donohue to race in the U.S. Road Racing Championship and Can-Am sports car series. Team Penske found success early with Donohue, winning consecutive USRRC championships and three SCCA Trans-Am championships. Penske and Donohue moved into INDYCAR SERIES racing by competing in three USAC-sanctioned road races in 1968. In 1969, the team entered the Indianapolis 500 for the first time, and Donohue finished seventh, earning Rookie of the Year honors. Three years later, Donohue earned the first of what has become 19 Indy 500 wins for Penske – more than any other team – including four from Rick Mears and three from Helio Castroneves. The team enters 2024 with a three-car lineup featuring two-time NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion (2017 and 2019) and 2023 Indianapolis 500 winner Josef Newgarden, two-time NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion (2014 and 2022) and 2018 Indianapolis 500 winner Will Power and 2021 NTT INDYCAR SERIES and Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year Scott McLaughlin, Team Penske’s highest championship finisher in 2023. Team Penske also competes in the NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series, and Porsche Penske Motorsport will campaign a pair of Porsche 963 prototypes in both the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Series and World Endurance Championship. Headed into 2024, the team has more than 620 wins, 680 poles, nearly 6,000 starts and 43 national championships across all racing series. Over the course of its 57-year history, the team has earned 19 Indianapolis 500 victories, three Daytona 500 wins, a Formula One win, overall victories in the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring, along with a win in Australia's legendary Bathurst 1000.
